  Identified the problem

  The engineer came round promptly and diagnosed the source of the leak, which I am now having dealt with via my insurance. He did as much as he could and also informed me that the bearings had gone on the drum of my washing machine, which I hadn't realised. He gave clear quotations for parts and future work.

  Very disappointed, submitting a complaint via Checkatrade

  The plumber came and replaced a fitting, for which he wanted to charge me double the £50 he first quoted me. We agreed on £70. I accidentally overpaid him, which he informed me about immediately, and I appreciated his honesty. However, he has not refunded the overpayment, claiming problems with his bank. Worse, the leak is still there and despite several appointments to come back and resolve the issue he has failed to turn up. I have reached the point where I have no alternative to submit a complaint via Checkatrade.

  Replacement of lock on bathroom door in shared rented property

  This proved to be more complicated than I had expected because it wasn't possible to find a replacement for the original fitting, so the company did a temporary fix and came back another day. The work cost more than I was originally quoted but I consider this reasonable given that they had to make 2 visits and spend some time searching for a suitable fitting. I had hoped for a lock integrated in the door handle but it seems this wasn't possible. I was kept informed about the issues and the company was courteous at all times. Can't comment on tidiness as I wasn't there but my tenants are happy.

  Waste of time

  This chap came round to look at my shower, gave me a quote which I accepted, then made a series of appointments with my tenant which he did not keep, saying the part wasn't available for collection yet. The last time he didn't even bother to let her know, he just didn't turn up.
