French Polishing is a wood finishing technique which is used to protect and bring out the natural beauty of the wood. The material used for French polishing is called Shellac, the process for French Polishing is very lengthy and repetitive, and would require the French Polisher to do this by hand, by pouring the French polish into a fad and thinned out with methylated spirits and boiled linseed oil to apply layer by layer, to mainly Post War and Antique Period Furniture and applied to many different types of Hardwoods such as Mahogany, Walnut or Oak.
