Hello, my name is Alan Norton,

Welcome to Equilibrium Building Solutions Ltd.

Equilibrium was established in April 2010, a family business with strong values, with a focus on excellent customer service.

Having been involved in construction most of my working life, I decided to start my own business and do it my way!

My construction journey began at the school workshop. Little did I know then that I would move on to becoming a carpenter in my adult life!

I’ve had the privilege of working on some very prestigious projects in the Southeast.

From high-end residential developments to bank & restaurant fit-outs, 5-star hotels, the shell building & Waterloo house, including Canary Wharf in the famous docklands development back in the day!

I’ve travelled the country working on a wide range of niche projects, including building sound recording studios.

With the arrival of my first two children (Harriet &Tom), I was given the opportunity to work for a small building contractor in South London.

Rob and I would be fitting luxury kitchens & bathrooms in some of the most desirable properties in London.

As his company grew, we moved onto large-scale renovations, it was here that my passion was realised.

I was promoted to Contracts manager, and my role was crucial to the smooth delivery of any given project.

I relished this opportunity and excelled in my new role.I enjoyed the pressure, but enjoyed the journey and the end results even more!

As the company grew even further, we were tasked with working at many private hospitals in London, including the famous Harley Street community.

Deadlines were important and had to be met; this is where my earlier shop-fitting experience came into play. Long hours and working under pressure were my new default mode.

Moving on 5 years, the company moved in a new direction.

Home insurance, property repairs & restoration were the new order for some of the biggest giants in the insurance industry!

With hundreds, if not thousands, of live jobs on the system at any given time, customer service was Paramount!

It was here that I really learned the importance of keeping customers up to date on timings and developments.

The nature of the work was vast; collision impacts, water ingress, house fires, subsistence, and storm damage were all part of the day-to-day operations.

It was here that I gained invaluable accolades for asbestos awareness, health and safety, and how to manage a large team of 20+ contractors.

The reinstatement works covered all aspects of the construction skillsets.

From structural repairs, crack stitching, roofing, brickwork & rendering to internal fit outs to include new hardwood flooring & restoration, kitchens, bathrooms, plasterwork, cornices & decoration.

It felt like we were the 5th emergency service at times. Fast forward 7 years, and we got the incredible news of our third child, our daughter Daisy.

It would be 8 years later ( 2010) before we moved to Hastings, East Sussex.

This was a BIG move for us as a family, but I was determined to make it work!

For a few years, I travelled backwards & forward to London until I built up my own client base here in Hastings.

The people of East Sussex have supported me from the very start to this present day!

We have worked for some of the nicest people I’ve ever met, and the properties are amazing too.

Living and working in and around Hastings definitely had an impact on the type of property I wanted to work on!

Period home renovations, renovations & extensions are definitely where my passion resides.

Not only do they look amazing, but they were built to last and offer unlimited potential opportunity to remodel & renovate.

Today we are heading towards our 16th year in business, and our client base is growing.
