10 Damp Consultation & PIV fitting
Posted 27 October
After moving house, we were worried about the damp that had been uncovered in our survey. After a free consultation with Alan, we felt reassured that our house was in safe hands. He is quick to respond to queries and is very knowledgeable, taking time to explain the problems and solutions. On the day, he and his colleague were on time, efficient, tidy and personable. We were really grateful for their advice on other construction matters whilst they were here. They have offered to return if we have any (unexpected) problems with our new PIV unit. We would definitely recommend their services.Verified reviewerJob location: PR810 Reliable, friendly and very proffesional.

I have reviewed this yesterday, however it may come across as having an issue with the Alan fitting the damp course. This is not the case, Alan was a source of guidance and advice, which resulted in him fitting the PIV and not rectifying any work carried previously.Verified reviewerJob location: WA810 Damp survey requested

Initially we asked for a survey of our living room, as we had had a damp course installed in Oct/ Nov 2023. We have damp patches on the chimney breast/alcoves. Alan diagnosed this as condensation, due to lack of ventilation having made our home (as many do) as draft proof as we could with upvc doors/windows. Fitting a PIV to help circulate the air throughout the house will hopefully cure this, only time will tell. Alan was very informative, prompt and communicated well throughout. I think the only slight drawback is that the unit is noisier than we were expecting.Verified reviewerJob location: WA810 Damp course

May we at AAA Construction take this opportunity to introduce ourselves and offer our services. We are proud members of Checkatrade, to ensure peace of mind and the quality of work you deserve. We also offer a home consultation. Established in 1987 - if it's condensation, rising damp, cavity wall ties, or a full extension, please ring Alan at AAA Construction for a FREE verbal est.
I have been in the building trade for over 40 years and over the last few years I have received more calls than ever from homeowners/Landlords regarding condensation. (Or what is thought to be rising damp) and in the most cases the property has had a damp-proof course installed. Contrary to popular belief damp-proof courses work! Let me try to explain why.
As part of the damp-proof course treatment is the re-plastering, of which the base coat receives a water-proofer which kills the suction from the wall to enable the plasterer to apply his finish coat, because a water-proofer has been added nothing from within the wall can escape, which means anything i.e. condensation cannot get through to the cavity which would naturally disperse.
Also, over insulating i.e. cavity wall insulation over insulated lofts, UPVC sealed doors and windows. This basically means we are living in submarines. All properties need heat and ventilation, without it air within our homes will become stale and heavily laden with water thus creating an unhealthy environment for both you and your home (condensation).
The simple remedy is for us to install a lofty whole house ventilation system. This works by creating a positive air flow within your home making it a healthier and dryer place to live.
