  Painting and papering done well

  Painting and papering a small bedroom. Done quickly, thoroughly, and with no fuss. Stu has always been very personable, as was James the paperer he got in to put that up. The wallpaper was technically a mural and looks very nice, without easily visible seams. All very good!

  General maintenance + tree removal

  Front and back gardens trimmed and mown, creepers clipped down, drive cleared of weeds, ugly tree cut down to size. Just a bunch of smaller jobs but Edward did them all well, to cost, and with good humour. Nothing to fault really!

  Apparent leak?

  Following earlier boiler servicing, our water pressure was dropping consistently. To Tom's great credit he hung around the house while we let our heating surge, thereby boring himself but actually identifying an overflow when everything came on. He came back and fit a valve that appears to have solved the problem, as well as coming back briefly (and for free) to flick a shower switch back on that had accidentally turned off our shower. Excellent professionalism, great job .

  Boiler fix

  While Tom Burnside came to deal with a variety of problems, from stopcock repair to a misfiring outdoor tap, it's the boiler repair where he was of most value. Following a British Gas clean bill of health at our last check-up, he found the source of our continually dropping water pressure and fixed it in a timely manner. Would recommend, would go back to Burnside & Son for our next boiler check-up, would *not* go to British Gas for that again.

  Underfloor Heating Not Working

  Okay so this didn't turn out to be the toughest of jobs, it was just a stuck pump - but we were panicking and the plumber turned up within two days, sorted it, and gave us some tips about our boiler for good measure. Very welcome.

  Three pieces of work

  Over several days, M&S Electrical conducted an EICR, carried out some complex earthing work and various other jobs to raise the EICR to Satisfactory, and finally responded to a callout to install a plug socket. All jobs were done in a timely and professional manner, with the earthing particularly impressive. We had some issues with getting our second booking sorted due to some confusion with the receptionist, however Matt and Josh were great all-round. Would use again and recommend.

  Lawn redo

  Artificial turf removed and a new lawn put down. Was scheduled to take five days working around other workmen, Matthew and his colleague finished ahead of time (working in some pretty sopping conditions) and the lawn looks great! Tidying efforts inside the house were hindered by the rain on the day, but this was a splendid job. Would recommend and would use again.

  Blinds installation for bifolds and skylights

  Quickly and efficiently done, the blinds are manual but effective and attractive. The supplier didn't deliver the adhesive for one of them, came back a few days after and the blind now looks great. No upselling or frippery either. Highly recommended.

  Full bathroom overhaul

  Small upstairs bathroom, initially reported as a wreck in housing survey with visible mould. Jon refitted the bathroom entirely, including removing the (unnecessary and unwanted) underfloor heating and redoing the mouldy plaster. End result looks great, and the team left things very tidy including hoovering the adjacent rooms. We realised afterwards that we'd forgotten a toilet roll holder, which Jon offered to fit after the fact free of charge. Highly recommended.

  Two rooms, walls ceilings and doors

  Urgent painting of two rooms, a study and a living room, before moving in, including walls ceilings doors and windowsills. The paint job was done well, and Stuart always kept us informed. Carpet was cut away to paint the skirting boards, this was done after consulting with us and with pretty minimal mess. Unfortunately the task did drag into the moving day, however Stuart flexed around us to make sure this caused minimal disruption. Very happy with the end result, and would pick SGH again.
