• OUR HISTORY

We are a family business which was been established for over 70 years. The business was established by Tom White, who began sweeping in 1953; however the family chimney sweeping history goes right back to Victorian times. Tom’s son, David took up the reins in 1970 and things really took off. From the 1990’s Tony and Ricky, David’s sons, joined him in running the business as it is now, making them 3rd generation sweeps! Back in the office, things run smoothly and efficiently with a full complement of capable and friendly staff. The White family originates from the East End of London, around the Shoreditch, Hoxton and the Bethnal Green area. It was David’s grandmother’s side of the family, the Brooks, who were originally chimney sweeps. Up until the Second World War, the Brooks, over many generations, had a large chimney sweeping business around London.When David’s grandfather, post-war, met with our Brooks relatives, who were no longer in business, he took the chimney sweeping equipment home with him for his son Tom, with their blessing and best wishes. This would enable Tom to make a start in the chimney sweeping business. The business flourished, spreading out from Swanley into North Kent and South London. Tom is no longer sweeping chimneys, but over the last 35 years, David has made many improvements, turning it into a modern, progressive business.The profession is no longer just about cleaning chimneys, which is why we now use the name ‘Chimney Specialists’ as in modern times, people's needs are many and varied. We can repair, repoint, remove and even rebuild chimney stacks and there is a constant need to fit new chimney pots and cowls. Over the last 15 years or so, as people become more aware of the benefits of using solid fuel, wood-burning stoves and new flue systems have become very popular.
