    Fixed and painted rones; closed hole in roof lead; "re pointed" ridge tiles

    This was quoted as a repair to a hole (my original request), a complete overhaul of the rones and re pointing of the ridge tiles. The job was finished in a few hours, the price went up as they went; the re pointing was done without any removal of loose mortar, using a glue-cement mix. The charge was £1200 for approx. 8 man hours of work. In my opinion this was grossly extortionate.

    I called the customers son in and told him it would be £140 to repair the hole where the swirls were getting in. As I was on the phone to him I told him that the gutter joints were leaking and he asked for a price for this. I advised him it was £940 to do the two jobs and he said that was ok. The customer was happy with the work. I told him the pointing at the roof tiles had pointing missing and I gave him a price and all the work came to £1200 and he was happy with the price. When the job was finished they seem to be happy with the work. I gave them an invoice which they paid. If the customer had been unhappy and had any queries they could have raised them with myself.
