    Extortionate

    Posted 25 March

Needed a plumber to fix a leak from pipe work to radiator in lounge. Called PKelling who claimed to be a family run busines, and was told it would be a £69 call out charge. We agreed and arranged the time. Work man arrived at 4.30 looked at the job told us what needed to be done, as it was getting late and we needed the work done, we agreed to go ahead. The workman returned to his van to get the cost off his boss who was in the van. On his return he told us the cost would be £479, to say we were shocked was an understatement. However because of the time we agreed to go ahead.

    Expensive

I called earlier to get a quote and was told £65 call out fee plus VAT. Came same day to review a suspected blocked drain. Lifted manhole cover (with owner's help), plunged a drain. Spent around an hour at the property. Charged £228 in total. Very, very expensive.

Thanks for your feedback, Samuel — I’m sorry you felt it was expensive. Just to add some context, Checkatrade’s own website shows typical drainage costs at around £60 for a call-out, with blockage clearing ranging from £75 up to £400+ depending on the work involved. We attended the same day, accessed the manhole and worked to clear the blockage during the visit. We always aim to sort things in one visit to save further cost and hassle. Happy to chat this through

    Very expensive

Managed to get a call out for same day, which they then cancelled and rearranged for next day. Fixed leaking bath effectively. Incredibly expensive. Over £300 to change the plug. Grateful for solution but wouldn’t use again as so expensive.

Hi Andrew, Thank you for your feedback. We’re glad we were able to fix the leaking bath for you. We understand your concern about the price. It was a complicated job and took longer than normal, and the cost covered the visit, diagnosing the problem, supplying the part, and completing the repair. Thank you for your patience when the appointment had to be moved to the next day, and we appreciate you taking the time to leave a review.

    What a joke.

What can I say, SHOCKING, if I could give 0 stars I would, they were asked to do a power flush and sent out an engineer to check everything over, engineer said the boiler needed a new head on the pump, charged £300, in which wasn't needed, eventually did the power flush and did it from radiator instead of boiler sending sludge back to the boiler and stopped it from working, heat exchanger blocked and left without heating for 11 days, I've had to get another heating engineer to try and resolve the problem, it's partly sorted though will need another power flush from boiler, more cost.

Hi Elva, Thank you for your feedback. We’re sorry to hear you feel unhappy about the situation. When our engineer attended, the system was checked and it was clear the pump needed replacing at the time. The advice given was based on what was found during the visit. The power flush was later carried out as requested. In older heating systems with a lot of sludge, issues can sometimes appear as the system is cleaned and debris moves through the pipework. If you would like to discuss this further, please contact us and we will be happy to review everything with you.
