PHGas responded quickly to a Saturday morning call, after the central heating failed the previous January evening, diagnosing sludge and explaining the symptoms. They offered a (relatively cheap) power flush, but warned it could not be guaranteed because of the age (12+) and state of the boiler, recommending either a replacement system boiler, or a new combi boiler - which they could fit on Tuesday. Alternative quotes proved their prices competitive, so we gave the go ahead for the combi.
