Had Owen and his team clean my solar panels last week, they have come up brand spanking new! Couldn’t believe it when I returned home to see them they looked amazing! Was advised by a recent inspection to get them cleaned and it’s made all the differences to the efficiency of the solar panels! Today I had the roof of house and garage, cleaned and repaired, and what a cracking result the boys gave me. They arrived on time , even though they came from a good distance from Tamworth. They immediately got down to work, and I didn’t see anyone of the three of them stop, until they got in there van to return home, late afternoon, what grafters. As for the work done, I have only praise, as I’m more than delighted with the results , they cleaned up everywhere and everything. What is Soft Wash Roof Cleaning?
Soft Wash roof cleaning uses low-pressure water jets to strip away moss and lichens that grow on your roof. You may have heard scare stories about pressurized roof cleaning services but in fact, it’s still the best way to clean roofs and a much more effective and long-term method than just scraping away moss and treating the roof.
Remove Moss On Roofs
Mosses, lichens and algae are a major maintenance headache throughout the UK. These external growths dramatically reduce the life expectancy of the roof tiles on which they are growing, giving rise to problems of water penetration.
Not only does moss damage your roof tiles, but it also causes erosion of the mortar joints on your valleys, ridges and chimneys. Mosses will also grow up under the laps of the tiles and cause capillary attraction of rainwater resulting in roof leaks.
The Process
1) Preparation: First we lay tarpaulin sheets down on the ground and cover up anything which may get dirty during the cleaning process, we also disconnect any downpipes and place net bags over drains to allow water to flow, but to prevent anything unwanted entering your drains.
2) Cleaning: We then pressure clean your roof, adjusting the pressure depending on the type of tile we’re cleaning to ensure we only remove the moss, lichen, algae and dirt from the tile without causing any damage to the surface of the tile.
Once this is done, we clean out all your gutters, downpipes and drains, clean your fascias and soffits and rinse down all your windows, walls, doors and frames. All the mess is then bagged up and taken away by us and everything is rinsed off down below.
Once all the moss, lichen, algae and dirt has been cleaned off your roof, we can clearly see what repairs need to be done.
3) Repairs: We will assess the state of the roof and determine what repairs are necessary. Basic repairs come as part of our full roof cleaning process at no extra charge and include:
- Repoint ridge tiles wherever necessary
- Replace any cracked/broken tiles
- Check/seal leadwork
- Check the tops of chimneys are re-cap if necessary
Should more significant repairs be required, we can talk to a roofing contractor on your behalf and arrange for the repairs to be done, assuming you’re happy with the quote.
4) Treatment: Once all the necessary repairs have been done, we then treat your roof with an organic anti-fungal agent which kills any remaining roots and spores in the tiles.
5) Final Process: We finish the process by cleaning all your windows, frames and doors, to leave the exterior of your house in pristine condition.
