Great response! Provided details of the job to Checkatrade late one afternoon; got message from Heritage Electrics a couple of hours later saying they could be with me the next day. Agreed a time with them, tradesman turned up on time and fixed the problems within a couple of hours. It turned out there were two separate problems which confused things but the tradesman worked through them logically and fixed both.
