Customer called today saying the carbon monoxide alarm had been activated and the boiler smells strange. We told her to immediately turn off the boiler and open a window. We arrived an hour later to find the burner and heat exchanger blocked with soot. We thoroughly cleaned the boiler, carried out full flow flue test, spillage test and gas tightness test. The ventilation was checked and the boiler recommissioned. This boiler is 1972 vintage and had been regularly 'serviced'. It would take us about one and a half hours to service this boiler properly, about and hour longer than the last service. Says it all really.
