The electrician came and just closed the socket and switched the power back on (could have done that myself) he measured some things and charged us £150, few hours later the I hear a bang and the power is off again in the kitchen.

The company made an appointment that was mutually convenient. The electrician turned up spot on time and was friendly, polite and used correct shoe covering. He carried out his tests and explained his findings and advice throughout.
