Keep products stored within a cupboard or on recessed shelves and, if possible, keep your laundry basket in another room. Removing unnecessary clutter will instantly make the room feel bigger.

1. Move everything before cleaning. To get the best results from your cleaning, you want to remove all products, towels, mats and other items from the floor and countertops.

2. Start by sweeping. Grab your duster and broom (or hoover), and start by removing any dust, dirt and cobwebs and then sweeping or hoovering up any debris on the floor.

3. Apply cleaner to the shower and bath. You can use a shop-bought cleaning product or make your own using baking soda, water and vinegar. Apply to the bath fittings and shower first, and leave to soak.

4. Move on to other surfaces. Using a clean cloth or sponge, apply your cleaning product and wipe down all surfaces, towel racks, shelves, doors, blinds, tiles and walls.

5. Tackle the floor. Once you’ve finished cleaning the main surfaces, it’s time to clean the floor using an all-purpose cleaner or more of your homemade cleaning solution.

6. Go back to the shower and bath. By this point the cleaning product you applied to your shower and bath should have had a good chance to soak. A light scrub should get rid of most of the dirt and grime, then rinse everything down with warm water.

7. Clean the toilet. Ideally you should regularly scrub the inside of your toilet using toilet cleaner or bleach and a toilet brush – this helps avoid a build up of dirt. Spray the outside of the toilet with an all-purpose cleaner and wipe with a clean cloth.

8. Shine the mirrors. Glass cleaners give the best clean for mirrors, which you can apply and then wipe off with a damp lint-free cloth.

9. Freshen with a spray. Who doesn’t love the smell of a good air freshener? Finish off by spritzing the bathroom with your favourite room spray.

10. Put everything back in place. With your bathroom now clean you can put all your items and products back in their place. Job done.

3. Add the two together to get total area for tiling (m2)

5. Divide the total from point #3 by the area of the single tile
